About

Appan Menon was a journalist and a television news editor and producer.

He began as an agency reporter, working in the print media but moved to television in its early years. His passionate interest and engagement with international affairs, that developed in his early years studying popular movements in Brazil led him, as a journalist, to cover events often ignored by the mainstream media bringing a well informed Indian perspective to his work.

He anchored the popular programme THE WORLD THIS WEEK for NDTV which was the first television news programme of its kind, bringing happenings from around the world into Indian homes.

Before joining NDTV, Appan had worked for The Hindu, Frontline, Press Trust of India (PTI) and United News of India (UNI). He had also spent time covering the United Nations HeadQuarters for Inter Press Service.

The Appan Menon Memorial Trust was established by his friends in 1996 soon after his untimely death on 28th June 1996.
